Projects OPEN is a non-profit gallery and shop that was set up in order to help support artists financially and to encourage new ideas and challenges. We were founded in 2019 and are based in the Saltmarket area of Glasgow. We are a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) with all profits we make going towards our programme, supporting artists and the community.
Our methodology is simple: we design Projects - brief-led open calls and commissions that are designed to stimulate the production of new work and opportunities. Briefs are set by the Projects OPEN team or invited guests. We also make approaches to artists that we think could contribute something interesting to our program.
Our approach is multidisciplinary as Projects incorporate art, design, architecture and craft practices and our output is varied as we take conceptual, thematic and formal approaches to our brief making. We facilitate the making of editions, series and unique works and support artists by paying them artists' fees, helping with production costs and selling their work.
Projects OPEN invites artists to take a momentary step away from their regular practices in order to make something they would not otherwise have made. We believe strongly in the developmental benefits of this approach and also that our platform can generate much-needed finances that will help artists to develop future projects. We believe in collaboration and collective endeavour.
Projects OPEN is critical but also lighthearted. It's supposed to be enjoyable. We are a non-profit looking to support artists and the community.
